Folio 68: R. Walpole to Viscount Weymouth. Encloses translations of three papers (ff.79-104) received from Pombal relative to the boundary dispute in South America. Pombal's lengthy arguments that Portuguese there had acted only in self-defence; that the Spaniardswere the aggressors; and that Grimaldi acted in bad faith, being determined to bring on a war with Portugal. Walpole's own comments, and hope that British and French governments will persuade Spain to see reason.
