Folio 35: L. Pinto de Sousa to Viscount Weymouth. Encloses a précis (f.37) of the instructions sent by Pombal to the Portuguese ambassador at Madrid, authorising him to negotiate a peaceful settlement with Spain. Pinto de Sousa takes credit for having helped to dissipate Pombal's mistrust of part played by France. He asks Weymouth for an interview, so that he can discuss the latest orders he has received.
