Folio 143: John Hunter to Earl of Rochford. Sir John left on the 1 Sept. Protests his own inadequacy for the job as deputy-consul, but will do his best. Recent prohibition of snuff-boxes from foreign countries is another blow to British trade. Portuguese government deliberately withholding treaty rights. Walpole has secured restitution of the money taken from Capt. A. Clarke and the punishment of the Customs-officer concerned.
