Folio 104: Sir John Hort to Earl of Rochford. Hard case of Helena Clifford, who not only has been unable to collect a debt justly due to her, but has been reduced by legal chicanery to utter want. He has tried but cannot get any satisfaction for her. Alexander Clarke, master of the Neptune, deprived of some money on the pretence it was contraband. Is leaving Mr John Hunter as his deputy, a choice approved by Walpole and all the Factory.
Date and place: 1772 Sept 1 Lisbon.
