Folio 56: Earl of Rochford to R. Walpole. Encloses extracts from Lord Harcourt's letter of 1 April [wanting] and of De Mello's categorical denial that any treaty with France was intended. Rochford not entirely convinced, and orders him to try to "unravel the mystery in which the whole affair is at present involved." (Cf. f.242 below).
