Folio 138: Sir John Hort to Earl of Rochford. Has given official notification of birth of a new royal prince, which has been suitably acknowledged. Has also notified Portuguese Ministers of Lyttleton's resignation and R. Walpole's appointment. "They part with Mr. Lyttleton with much regret." Inconclusive discussions continuing with Martinho de Mello over the Argyle affair. Prohibition of French woollens seems to be only semi-official. Legal complications arising out of the belated Portuguese decision to try the imprisoned English pirates of the Black Prince etc., at Lisbon. Factory are objecting to paying for the maintenance of the prisoners, which they think the Admiralty should do.
Date and place: 1771 June 27 Lisbon.
