Folio 188: Viscount Weymouth to W. H. Lyttleton. Regrets that it is necessary for him to return to Lisbon as soon as possible, since Hort cannot obtain any satisfaction in the Connell case. He should concentrate on clarifying and maintaining the status and jurisdiction of the Factory's Judge-Conservator as laid down in the 1654 Treaty; and he must find out how far King Joseph "intends to support that strange claim of reciprocity, which is neither founded in Treaty or reason." He must also keep a close watch on French "unusual bustle" at Lisbon.
Date and place: 1770 Dec 17 Lisbon.
