Folio 65: Joseph da Silva to Martinho de Mello e Castro. Complaining that he has been compelled to pay the sum of 17/- by virtue of a warrant issued by the Lord Mayor of London (ff. 5, 6). Argues that this is a clear breach of Anglo-Portuguese treaties which give the same privileges and immunities to Portuguese merchants residing in Britain (of whom he is one) as British enjoy in Portugal. Asks him to obtain redress and exemption for the future from the British government.
