Folio 41: General J. Irwin to E. Hay. Intelligence reports that `the Spaniards and French united, intend to invade Portugal' and possibly to attack Gibraltar. Would like to know if Hay has similar information. He should keep an eye on the activities of the Chevalier Montvert at Lisbon, who may be a spy. Great damage done by a tremendous hailstorm on the 30 Dec. last, `I have however put everybody in motion, and hope to clear the town in a short time.'.
Date and place: 1766 Feb 1 Gibraltar.
