Folio 35: E. Hay to H. Seymour Conway. His confidential interview with the Count of Oeiras on the rumours that Portugal might be joining the Bourbon Family Compact. The Count's indignant denial. Hay's own assessment of Portuguese foreign policy, and his reasons for believing that while the Count of Oeiras may be intent on undermining British trade, he will never abandon the Anglo-Portuguese alliance.
