Folio 247: E. Hay to Earl of Halifax. As ordered, has renewed his representations to the Count of Oeiras on need to attend to redressing the British merchants' grievances, giving him a French translation (f.251) of Halifax's letter (f.216), showing King George's dissatisfaction at the delay. The Count's objections to this letter, his warm defence of the Wine Co., and Hay's own counter-arguments, which evidently failed to convince Oeiras. Expects that De Mello will return to England in about a fortnight in HMS Lark.
Date and place: 1763 Nov 5 Lisbon.
