Folio 205: E. Hay to Earl of Egremont. He still cannot get any satisfactory answer from the Portuguese ministers, who adopt evasive tactics whenever he tries to raise the topic of redressing British merchants' grievances. Count of Oeiras takes the line that the twogovernments should not concern themselves with such trifles. Martinho de Mello e Castro has studiously avoided him ever since his arrival.
