Description

Folio 293: E. Hay to Earl of Egremont. Arrangements he has made for the transmission of the official Portuguese ratification of the peace preliminaries to the Duke of Bedford. Communication with Spain now open. Naval news. Prince Charles of Mecklenburg has had his farewell audience of the King and Queen, and received as a parting present a portrait of King Joseph, `very richly ornamented with jewels and in a most elegant taste'.
