Folio 239: E. Hay to Earl of Egremont. Correspondence between Queen of Portugal and Queen-Mother of Spain continues, but is quite innocuous. Eulogises Count Lippe's tactful and exemplary behaviour, despite the surliness and bloody-mindedness of the Portuguese commanders who thwart him whenever they can. He has achieved wonders and gets full backing from King and Count of Oeiras. Prince of Mecklenburg has been ill during the whole campaign and is now convalescing at Lisbon.
Date and place: 1762 Nov 9 Lisbon.
