Folio 236: E. Hay to Earl of Egremont. Details of latest military operations. Both sides have gone or are going into winter quarters. Both are suffering from sickness, but the Spaniards very severely, having 15,000 men in their hospitals and lost another 15,000 through desertion. King and ministers very satisfied with behaviour of Count Lippe and British troops who have saved Portugal. Naval news. Unruly deserters from Ambuscade privateer imprisoned at Cascais but now released and put in HMS Blonde. French and Spanish naval prisoners a problem as Portuguese decline to allow them ashore.
