Folio 148: E. Hay to Earl of Egremont. Loss of Almeida has prevented a projected invasion of Spain, but Count of Oeiras affirms Portuguese are very anxious to carry the war there, and are requesting through their envoy at London, further British subsidies and loansfor this purpose on the security of the Rio de Janeiro Fleet. Portugal will never negotiate a separate peace with France or Spain. King and ministers very pleased with conduct and courage of Count Lippe.
