His confidential interview with Choiseuil and the Court of France's great resentment at pro-British attitude of the Portuguese Crown, particularly in relation to Boscawen's defeat of De La Clue's squadron off Lagos. Threat to withdraw French ambassador from Lisbon if satisfaction not forthcoming. Salema's own view on danger of Spanish attack.
