Folio 253: Thomas Plumer to R. Wood. On behalf of the Committee of Merchants trading to Portugal and of the British Factory at Oporto, he expresses annoyance and unease that the memorial submitted to Mr. Pitt against the monopolistic Wine Co. of the Alto Douro (ff.130, 132, 151) has produced no effect or acknowledgement. Carvalho `has gone far beyond his predecessors in the violation of Treaties, and in measures injurious to Great Britain.' The Committee wish urgently to know what action Pitt proposes to take in their favour.
