Folio 222: E. Hay to W. Pitt. King and Court being at Salvaterra, he has not yet been able to deliver King George II's messages in person, but has informed Dom Luis da Cunha in writing, as also of King's pleasure at latter's tactful behaviour in the affair of Capt.Denis R.N. Sends more printed papers relating to the plot and execution of the conspirators. The real reason for the Tavoras' plot was the family resentment at King Joseph's liaison with the young Marchioness of Tavora, now confined to a not very strict convent, `where it is said she lives very much at her ease.' Measures being taken against the Jesuits.
