Description

Folio 312: E. Hay to H. Fox. Factory at Oporto very upset about project for monopolising export of port wine to Brazil by a new company. He cannot protest about this until the project is made public, and only then if it appears our treaty rights will be infringed. Disgrace and banishment of Diogo de Mendonça and the composure with which he took it. Reward of 20,000 cruzados offered for anyone denouncing plotters against lives of the King's ministers. Arrival of Pernambuco Fleet and particulars of its cargoes. French prizes taken by New Britannia privateer.
