Folio 204: A. Castres to H. Fox. Carvalho's reaction to news of British treaty with the King of Prussia, and his assurances that as a good Portuguese `he should always show himself an hearty Englishman'. Court realise the delay in the arrival of H.M.S. Hampton Court's relief-convoy is due to the bad weather. Five out of six of the Irish convoy have arrived, and Carvalho has ordered the first distribution of beef and butter to be made to the distressed English and Irish poor, `out of gratitude as well as decency'.
