Description

Folio 123: G. Crowle to C. Amyand. Cannot compile the account required by Lord Holdernesse (f.107) until the end of the year. Ravages of the Algerines and failure of Portuguese warships to defeat them. Alarm caused here by news of the frequent bankruptcies in Spain. Contraband trade with Spanish America. Spanish ambassador trying to negotiate a Luso-Spanish royal marriage to which most people are strongly opposed.
