Folio 110: A. Castres to Earl of Holdernesse. Carvalho has assured him that a favourable decision in Burrel's lawsuit has been reached and will be promulgated next week. Encloses a translation (f.112) of a grant obtained by a local French merchant, Grenier, for trading with Goa and Coromandel. The capital will amount to about two million cruzados, and the project is thought to be inspired by `the famous La Bourdonnais, who was so ill-used by the French East-India Company'. M. de Bachi will probably assume the function of French ambassador here, but `has ordered the French Consul here to insinuate to M. de Carvalho his Court did not insist upon the Reciproque.'.
Date and place: 1753 Jan 13 Lisbon.
