Folio 24: B. Keene to Duke of Newcastle. His interview with Cardinal da Mota on possibility of Portuguese mediation, to which King George II has agreed informally but cannot do so in form unless the Queen-Empress of Austria-Hungary likewise consents. Count Rosenberg's reactions and the Queen of Spain's admission that Spain needs peace more than anyone. The great stumbling-block is an establishment for the Infante Don Felipe, to which George II refuses to agree. Encloses report from Cadiz (f.29).
