Description

Folio 16: Charles Compton to Duke of Newcastle. Arrival of two Maltese men-of-war. Encloses copies of his correspondence with the Maltese commandant concerning the reported intention to sell one of them to the Spaniards at Cadiz (ff.18-20). Release of the long detained Hanover packet-boat and relevant correspondence (ff.22). Has relaid the Admiralty orders for all ships of 50 guns and upwards to proceed to the Mediterranean. Count of Assumar going as Viceroy to Goa. Encloses letters from King and Queen of Portugal in answer to those of Hanoverian royal family (wanting).
