Folio 172: Charles Compton to Lord Carteret and Duke of Newcastle. Interview with Cardinal da Mota over the East India Co.'s request for restitution of cargo of wrecked East-Indiaman Winchester off Pernambuco. Portuguese stalling owing to suspicion of contraband trade. King John has had further seizures but is now at Caldas. Release of the Virgin of Mercy has given great satisfaction at Court.
