Folio 210: Lord Tyrawly to Duke of Newcastle. Imbroglio over Irish crimps and deserting seamen from H.M.S. Cumberland etc. and the time and trouble it cost to placate King John V over these incidents. Complains bitterly of the local Irish friars. Need to conclude some agreement with the Portuguese government for the arrest and return of absconding British seamen. Complains of the tactless and arrogant behaviour of some R.N. captains. Encloses a petition from the Factory (f.216), asking for better naval protection; but he agrees with Sir Charles Wager it will be difficult to provide this just now.
