Folio 242: Sir John Norris and Lord Tyrawly to Duke of Newcastle. Their interviews with the Secretary of State and the King, both of whom heard with pleasure that King George II had consented to the fleets remaining at Lisbon, until the joint-mediation had proceeded further. Unreasonable attitude of the Dutch Resident and the relevant correspondence enclosed (ff.248). This man has done everything he can from `a rage of envy and jealousy' to thwart Tyrawly and Norris, spreading false reports that King John was greatly dissatisfied with the lack of respect shown him when he visited the fleet, etc. They have not yet received any orders to act jointly with the French consul, Montagnac.
Date and place: 1736 Jan 7, NS Lisbon.
