Folio 282: Lord Tyrawly to Duke of Newcastle. His cordial private interview with King John V, and the latter's gratification at King George II's assurance of friendship. King John is very pro-Austrian but it is difficult to fathom his real intentions, owing to his quirky disposition and tendency to rely on unofficial and quite unqualified advisers. Begs to be allowed to give the King some confidences on British foreign policy from time to time.
Date and place: 1734 Apr 17 Lisbon.
