Folio 189: Charles Compton to Duke of Newcastle. Account of the general Factory Meeting where the opposition voted in their candidate by a small majority (46 to 39) using dubious means. Analysis of the voting enclosed (ff.191-92). Uproar over the result and his ownreluctance to implement it without the approval of Newcastle, to whom the problem is referred Cf. f.235.
