Description

Folio 141: Charles Compton to Duke of Newcastle. Will endeavour to seize the effects of the absconding John Thompson (f.138), if any such should be identified at Lisbon. Detailed narrative of the arrest and release of Mr Auriol of Messrs. Auriol and Pratviel. Intervention of Lord Tyrawly and results thereof. General consternation of the Factory at the opening of all their letters from Brazil by King John V's order but things seem to have quietened down now. Advocates the removal of the duty on uncut diamonds in the U.K., in order to attract the importation of more diamonds from Brazil.
