Folio 121: Lord Tyrawly to Duke of Newcastle. Problem of Royal naval boats carrying arms in them, and analysis of the differing English and Portuguese viewpoints. Contrary to what Campos, Portuguese Envoy in England, alleges not only British but all other nations' naval boats are armed, particularly the Dutch of which Tyrawly gives an amusing but probably apocryphal instance. Spaniards beat up insolent Portuguese Customs officials. Renewed justification of himself in the Caldas affair (f.110). Renews his request for a transfer to some other Court, away from the arbitrary and despotic tantrums of King John V.
Date and place: 1731 Sept 28 Lisbon.
