Folio 294: Duke of Newcastle to Lord Tyrawly and Sir John Norris. Criticises the wording of the joint paper they gave in on July 30 as being tactlessly harsh. Portuguese to be reassured that the Joint Mediators are treating them on an exact footing of equality withSpain. Spanish Court suspects the mediators of leaning to the Portuguese side, as the Portuguese do the opposite. If King of Portugal can be tactfully persuaded to trust the mediators this should speedily result in a happy end to the affair.
