Folio 278: Duke of Newcastle to Lord Tyrawly and Sir John Norris. Encloses a copy (f.284) of his interview with Senhor Azevedo, concerning the incident at Nova Colonia, Rio de la Plata, and the Portuguese request for assistance, and rejection of the same as unnecessary. They are to take the same line with Guedes at Lisbon. Portuguese `strong objections' to four points in the projected joint mediations and the British government's comments on and replies to the same. Attitude they are to take on these points. Encloses letter of condolence for King John V on death of his sister, to be delivered by Lord Tyrawly `in the usual manner'. Rough draft with numerous alterations and deletions.
