Folio 194: Duke of Newcastle to Sir John Norris. As a result of urgent Portuguese requests at both Lisbon and London, King has agreed that the fleet should remain at Lisbon `till the joint-mediation be further cleared up and the posture of affairs in Europe shall make it advisable for you to return home.' King John should be made `sensible of this great mark of H.M.'s regard and concern for his interest and security,' but at the same time reminded of his obligation to go along with the joint-mediation. Admiralty have been ordered to send forthwith the necessary stores and provisions.
