Folio 164: Duke of Newcastle to Lord Tyrawly and Sir John Norris. Queen very glad to hear that the King of Portugal has formally accepted joint Franco-British mediation. King of Spain also expected to accept it when it is proposed to him by France, as per enclosed correspondence (wanting). Queen is surprised to hear from Walpole as per enclosed (wanting) that Dom Luis da Cunha has not yet been informed by his Court that King John V has accepted Franco-British mediation; but Tyrawly and Newcastle are to continue to try and keep him in this disposition. Encloses papers relevant to the position of the States-General (all wanting). King is disappointed with their sluggish attitude and disinclination to rearm as he hoped they would have done for their own security `and for the general good of all Europe.'.
