Folio 160: Duke of Newcastle to Sir John Norris. Queen's entire satisfaction with his conduct, especially his inducing the King of Portugal to accept the joint Franco-British mediation. Also approves his sending Capt. Medley to Cadiz to secure latest intelligence, and to employ some of his ships in keeping the Barbary pirates in awe. Decision as to length of fleet's stay at Lisbon will depend on reactions to the joint Franco-British mediation.
