Folio 139: Duke of Newcastle to Lord Tyrawly and Sir John Norris. Portuguese government to be reassured Spain has no aggressive designs as confirmed by enclosed extract [wanting] from Lord Waldegrave. Not necessary to make a naval demonstration off Cadiz, as suggested by Portuguese. Queen glad to hear that King John V will not object to joint Anglo-French mediation. Thinks this can best be effected by Portuguese diplomatic initiative. Queen hedges on Portuguese request that Norris's fleet should intervene actively if Portugal is attacked by land, and refers decision to King at Hanover. Encloses papers relevant to the attitude of the States-General (all wanting).
