Folio 101: Duke of Newcastle to Lord Tyrawly. Has now seen M. Azevedo, who has asked for land forces from Britain as well as sea. Request has been referred to King at Hanover, but meanwhile the Queen peremptorily rejects it, regarding the dispatch of Sir John Norris' squadron as more than sufficient, even if King John V does not think so. Tyrawly is told in strongest terms not to give King John V any encouragement to go to war with Spain, but to inform him that if he does, he will get no help from Britain. Newcastle adds a rebuke to Tyrawly for putting in writing to Mendonça Corte-Real something which was best transacted verbally.
Date and place: 1735 May 28 London.
