Description (What the record is about)

Folio 298: [Duke of Newcastle] to [James Dormer]. Since Portuguese Envoy has renewed his complaints about absconding debtors to the Portuguese Crown being given sanctuary in British warships, packet-boats and merchant-vessels, King has renewed the orders to the Admiralty and the Post-Master General that this practice must cease and offenders punished. Dormer ordered to take similar steps at Lisbon to ensure compliance and to inform King of Portugal accordingly.
