Folio 285: Diogo de Mendonça Corte-Real to James Dormer. Seven of Dormer's servants tried to kill Burnett on Dormer's orders this morning, seriously wounding him, and he was only saved by the interposition of bystanders. This scandalous and unprecedented atrocity has greatly angered the King of Portugal who orders Dormer to dismiss the seven servants concerned, and not to come to court any more, nor will he be heard or given official recognition. King John V is also informing King George II of this matter `in the form which the grievousness of it requires.'.
Date and place: 1727 Oct 22 Lisbon.
