Folio 193: James Dormer to Lord Viscount Townshend. Will send correspondence to him at Hanover, and sends copies of two of his recent letters to Newcastle. Has complimented the King of Portugal as directed by Newcastle (f.167). Discussion with Secretary of State over British prizes taken by Spanish privateers. Friendly attitude of latter and the king, but they are both determined `to avoid as much as possible deciding any point in dispute between us and Spain'. Gratification at news of Peace Preliminaries being signed. News from and about Gibraltar. Naval movements. The Victoria has sailed on a secret mission (f.163). Two ships from Bahia with cargoes of tobacco, sugar and hides.
