Folio 163: James Dormer to Duke of Newcastle. Gunpowder for Gibraltar, the Spanish ambassador's efforts to prevent its dispatch, and his own arguments with the Secretary of State to connive at it. King of Portugal eventually gave permission. Forwards letters from Sir Charles Wager. The Portuguese warship Victoria, variously reported as bound for Mazagão, for Cape Verde islands (to stop the reported sale of St. Antonio to the English), and to the Azores to fetch the Spanish silver (f.146) thence. Forwards a letter from Consul Parker with news of loss and recapture of the Lake. Spanish protest so far ignored by the Court. Is celebrating H.M. birthday by asking the British Factory to dinner.
