Folio 146: James Dormer to Duke of Newcastle. Very grateful to the King for his latest promotion. Letters from Lord Portmore and Sir Charles Wager on siege of Gibraltar (ff.140-141). British Factory at Oporto's petition for naval protection (ff.149-152). Has asked Sir Charles Wager to detach a ship if he can. Portuguese and Spanish reactions to two British prizes taken by latter, and British demands for restitution. Diplomatic news. Wreck of a rich Spanish ship from the Flota in the Azores, and about half its bullion cargo of a million piastres saved.
