Folio 145: James Dormer to Duke of Newcastle. Another lengthy secret interview with the Infante Dom Francisco in which latter again urged dispatch of a British Fleet to overawe Lisbon and the pro-Spanish inclinations of King John V, the Marquis of Abrantes and the Cardinal-Patriarch. All of these are delighted at the fall of the Duke of Orléans in France, and Patriarch wishes the Pretender could be landed in England with support from a Franco-Portuguese fleet. Marquis of Abrantes states that the Anglo-Portuguese Treaty of 1654 is `the most pernicious ever made with a crowned head.' This letter goes by the captain of the merchantman Plymouth direct to Plymouth, and thence by express to the Duke. Endorsed: `Recd. 16 July by Flying Packet from Plymouth.'.
