Folio 135: James Dormer to Duke of Newcastle. Acknowledges his cyphered letter of the 24th (? received 21st June see S.P.89/32 f.85). Has not written his own in cypher as is convinced the way he sends it in the packet-boat is perfectly safe. Undecided as to the Infante Dom Francisco's real motives, `whether a puncto of honour may not oblige him to conceal matters of consequence .. or whether his natural temper may not incline him to violent measures upon slight motives.' Discussion with Diogo de Mendonça Corte-Real on France's attitude. He and Stert will do their best to help Mr. Harrison.
