Folio 188: Thomas Burnett to Lord Carteret. Arrest of a sailor [Nathaniel Simpson, boatswain] of H.M.S. Falmouth for carrying a pistol on shore after 9 p.m. Argues that British masters of ships, merchants, mates, and mariners are allowed by previous treaties and decrees (ff.192-194) to carry arms for self-defence, and this privilege should be insisted on. Ceuta hard pressed by Moors. Bahia Fleet ordered to leave on May 13.
