Folio 174: Thomas Lumley to Lord Carteret. Court news. Sends copy of his memorandum on Mr. Johnson's passport for Rio de Janeiro (f.178). Will investigate claim for French prize. Incident between a Portuguese Customs official and a Dutch naval officer, and King of Portugal's intervention and annoyance. Thinks King's rigorous attitude may partly be due to his resentment over Dutch aggression to Portuguese in East Africa and India.
