Contrary to his expectations, Portuguese still insist that British naval stores should pay duty; and they resent naval officers landing them without inspection, as per copy of Mendonça's dispatch to him (f.91). Account of an auto da fé on 16 June. King John gone to pass the summer at Pedroso.
