Folio 217: Henry Worsley to James Craggs. Lord Hinchinbrook has left Lisbon in H.M.S. Solebay. Abbe de Mornay has now finally received orders to join with Worsley in pressing King of Portugal to adhere to the Quadruple Alliance. The Portuguese government is still stalling on this, and he thinks their decision will ultimately hinge on whether the Spaniards pay the 600,000 pieces-of-eight due under the Treaty of Utrecht (S.P.89/26). Does not think that Count Tarouca will be next Portuguese ambassador in London, but Dom Luis da Cunha. The present envoy there [Jacinto Pereira Borges] has been given a present of £1,000 by King of Portugal for getting payment of the treaty subsidies due. Abortive Portuguese mobilisation preparations. Conflicting reports of ex-Duke of Ormonde's expedition.
Date and place: 1719 Dec 4, NS Lisbon.
